moosic
i am writing an article at the moment on using music to treat depression... which only randomly relates to the reason for this post.
the reason for this post is that everytime i'm on the train and my ipod selects elliott smith's pitseleh from over 500 songs, i think... wow. this is one of my very favourite songs.
regardless of my mood - i can never bring myself to skip it. other such tunes include sufjan's predatory wasp of the palisades, iron and wine's fever dream, great lake swimmers various stages, frou frou's let go and the perishers trouble sleeping.
now my blog all emo - not my intention :) ... i just think this song is beautiful.
elliott smith: pitseleh
i'll tell you why i don't want to know where you are
i got a joke i been dying to tell you
a silent kid is looking down the barrel
to make the noise that i kept so quiet
i kept it from you, pitseleh
i'm not what's missing from your life now
i could never be the puzzle pieces
they say that god makes problems
just to see what you can stand
before you do as the devil pleases
and give up the thing you love
but no one deserves it
the first time i saw you i knew it would never last
i'm not half what i wish i was
i'm so angry
i don't think it'll ever pass
and i was bad news for you just because
i never meant to hurt you
...
so, what are your favourite songs?

i never really liked pitseleh or amity. i didn't understand and bled white are more my kind of bag.
fav song? well....i have many.
right now tho it's isis by bob dylan. coz the drums are wicked, right. and the lyrics are great.
i'm also loving razorblade by the strokes, and one crowded hour by augie march.
For my money, it just doesn't get any better than Britney's "Not a girl, not yet a woman". Equal second favourite, and this was a close one, is Michael "Mike" Bolton's rendition of "When a man loves a woman" and Nicky Webster's "Strawberry Kisses".
Im with Adriana on the Britney wave length but i'd much prefer 'Slave for you' because of course that's what we all want to be deep down isn't it ladies???
The Nicky Webster was a good call but I eventually started skipping that song. Actually, there is no song I have liked that I didn't eventually start skipping. Current favourites, however, that have not reached that stage include Bloc Party's Like Eating Glass, Bootsy Collins's Psychoticbumpschool and this gem.
btw 'pitseleh' means 'darling one' in yiddish i think...
quote from review:
The song was Pitseleh, and something about it, to this day, makes me feel so beautifully sad whenever I hear it.
cheers dante, i'd wondered.
and ta to all of de'above. x
Favourite song... that's a tough one actually.
I'd have to say that a few of my favourites are Jamie Cullum's version of "High and Dry" by Radiohead, "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel, and "Fallen" by Sarah McLachlan.
I must say though, I'm a sucker for anything acoustic...
it's funny, the second you commit to something - there are a million reasons (or songs in this case) that suddenly reappear in your life and you think... dang...
such examples are: thinking about you (radiohead) and in the aeroplane over the sea (neutral milk hotel)
